Manteca‘s debut album Meu Brasil is a very personal dedication to the wonderful, veried and irresistable music from Brazil – home to samba, bossa nova and musica popular brazileira.

The music

Afar from the bossa-nova-cliché Manteca are giving new inspiration to popular classics from Brazil with their own interpretations. Contemporary pop music of young Brazilian artists like Toco, jazzy and funky sounds of Chico Pinheiro or spherical ballads like Feliz e triste by Ceumar create a very elegant and tasteful sound experience which is hard to resist.

The Sound

The unique velvet voice of singer Felicia Touré adds a silvery tone to each song making the album shine. Inspired by a lot of emotion and passion the pieces of music are arranged taking the listener on an exciting trip throught the many facettes of Brazilian music. Everywhere: samba, the pulsating heart of this enthusing music is typical of songs like Triste or Aquarela do Brasil. But also folkloric songs like Força da imaginação or Eu e o meu amor reflect the soul of Brazil.

The compositions

The instrumental pieces First cut and Session tune and the song Ode to samba have been composed by bandleader, arranger and drummer Juergen Peiffer and convince through love for sound and detail matching perfectly with the Brazilian originals.

The Band

For this album Manteca have not only worked with the regular cast – Berhold Matschat, piano – Fritz Roppel, bass – Juergen Peiffer, drums, Felicia Touré, vocals but also renowned musicians and friends have been invited.
The pieces Fly me to the moon, Aquarela do brasil, outro lugar and On my Mind have been recorded with a brass/horn section.
